시에 따르면 오산세교3신도시는 국토교통부가 대도시권 주택공급 확대 방안으로 발표한 공공주택지구로서, 서동 일대 약 131만 평에 인구 7만5천900명, 3만3천세대 규모의 주택이 건설되는 신도시 조성 사업이다.
