[Break News Gyeonggi Southern = Reporter Lee Hyun-joon, Suwon] Gyeonggi Province is launching a "World Cultural Heritage Tour" project to broaden global experiences and awareness for children in need of protection and young people preparing for independence in the province, aged 15 and older.

The program targets 30 children in foster care and young people preparing for independence. Children in need of protection are those living in child care facilities, group homes, or foster care. Young people preparing for independence are those who have turned 18 and are leaving the facility or are transitioning to independent living.

From August 18th to 22nd, 14 children in need of protection will visit Vietnam for five days and three nights. Sixteen young people preparing for independence will travel in four groups to Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand sequentially from August 9th to October 27th.

The province explained that the World Cultural Heritage Tour project, following its successor last year, will be carried out this year to broaden the horizons and awareness of children in need of protection and young people preparing for independence.

Participation is divided into open call and participatory programs. The open call program is open to young people under the age of 29 who have resided in Gyeonggi Province for at least three months and are preparing for independence. Applications are accepted, and selection is based on travel plans and interviews. The participatory program is open to children recommended by childcare facilities in the province.

Those selected for the tour will receive support for airfare, lodging, and experience expenses.

Kwon Moon-joo, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Childcare Division, stated, "We hope this World Cultural Heritage Tour will broaden children in need of protection and young people preparing for independence's diverse cultural experiences, foster positive motivation, and serve as a cornerstone for their independence."
