여주시, 회복력 있는 ‘전국 10대 우수 기초지자체’ 선정

[브레이크뉴스경기남부=여주 이현준기자] 올해 ‘전국 10대 우수 기초지자체’에 여주시가 선정됐다.

한겨레경제사회연구원이 ‘지역의 회복탄력성(회복력)’이 있는 지역 모델을 발굴하기 위해 전국 226곳의 기초지방자치단체를 대상으로 연구와 평가를 진행한 결과다.

환경·경제·사회 전체 영역에서 우수한 평가를 받은 상위 10곳의 기초지방자치단체 중에 수도권에 속한 기초지자체가 6곳으로 그 중 여주시가 도시 규모나 인구 면에서 가장 작다. 지역 격차는 저출생·고령화, 산업 구조의 변화, 사회복지 및 인프라 등 구조적이고 복합적 요인에서 비롯되고 지역 경제 위축이나 지역 소멸의 위기로 이어질 수 있다는 점에서 여주시의 선정은 주목할 만하다.
