이번 시승 행사는 수원컨벤션센터에서 출발해 홍재교삼거리와 광교중앙역을 경유하는 약 3.4km 구간에서 약 20분간 진행됐으며, 이재식 의장을 비롯한 시의회 의원들이 함께 탑승해 자율주행 기술의 안전성과 편의성을 직접 체험했다.

이재식 의장은 “자율주행 기술은 미래 교통의 패러다임을 바꿀 핵심 기술인 만큼, 이번 시승을 통해 시민의 삶과 도시 교통 환경에 어떤 변화가 일어날 수 있을지 실감할 수 있었다”며, “시의회에서도 스마트 교통도시 수원을 위한 정책적 뒷받침에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 수원시와 국토교통부가 공동 주최하는‘2025 수원 ITS 아태총회’는 지능형교통체계가 제시하는 초연결도시를 주제로 오는 5월 28일부터 수원컨벤션터과 수원시 일대에서 개최될 예정이다.
