[브레이크뉴스경기남부=수원 오경희기자] 경기도교육청 임태희 교육감이 14일, 경기도 공립 최초 ‘디플로마 프로그램(Diploma Programme, DP) 월드스쿨’로 인증받은 죽산고등학교(학교장 유광종)를 방문해 축하의 뜻을 전하고 학교 구성원의 노고를 격려했다.

안성시에 위치한 죽산고등학교는 지난 2023년 6월 아이비(IB) 관심학교로 시작해 같은 해 10월 후보학교가 되었으며, 약 14개월간의 준비를 거쳐 지난 1월 ‘월드스쿨’ 인증을 받았다.

도교육청은 2025년 3월 기준으로 죽산고등학교를 포함한 ▲월드스쿨 7교(초 4교, 중 1교, 고 2교) ▲후보학교 44교 ▲관심학교 123교를 운영하고 있다.

올해에는 후보학교 중 12교의 인증을 완료하고, 후보학교 40교와 관심학교 100교를 추가로 선정하여 수업과 평가의 전문성 심화와 학교 교육력 제고를 위해 지속적으로 힘쓸 방침이다.

인증 선포식에는 임태희 교육감을 비롯해 도교육청 주요 관계자와 학교 교직원, 학부모 다수가 참석해 죽산고등학교의 월드스쿨 인증을 함께 축하했다.

이어 “아이비 교육은 새로운 시각에서 문제점을 바라보고, 협동으로 문제의 해법을 찾으며, 다양한 사안에 대해 깊이 이해하는 등 생각의 힘을 키우는 교육”이라면서 “아이비 교육이 아무도 경험하지 못한 미래를 살아갈 여러분에게 더 필요한 교육, 큰 에너지를 주는 교육이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.

임 교육감은 “경기도 공립고등학교 최초로 ‘디플로마 프로그램(DP) 월드스쿨’로 인증받은 여러분의 노력에 진심으로 감사드리며 적극적인 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”며 축하의 말을 전했다.

한편 죽산고등학교와 통합 운영하고 있는 죽산중학교도 오는 4월 ‘월드스쿨’ 인증 심사를 받기 위해 준비 중이다. 향후 죽산중학교가 인증을 받으면 죽산중고등학교는 중학교 과정(MYP)과 고등학교 과정(DP)을 함께 운영하는 전국 최초의 통합운영학교가 된다.
