The proportional political party, the Popular Democratic Party, has decided to propose active and detailed improvement measures to improve the convenience of foreign workers, including Chinese compatriots, in an era where there are 2 million foreigners residing in Korea for both short and long term periods.
Choi In-baek, Secretary-General of the Popular Democratic Party, announced on the 1st that at a meeting with media outlets related to Korean-Chinese people held at Dongpo Town in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on the 31st, he listened to their difficulties that the alien registration and health insurance qualification procedures were still inconvenient.
In relation to this, Secretary General Choi said, “We will simplify administrative procedures to enable one-stop service as much as possible and propose opening a small branch bank adjacent to the Immigration Office in major regions across the country to make it convenient for foreign workers to use the bank for remittances and currency exchange.” .
He continued, “From the perspective of the financial sector, most foreign workers have a lot of savings and are very good customers,” and pointed out, “It is time to consider establishing a new financial institution just for them.”
Secretary-General Choi also heard an explanation of the problems caused by international marriages between foreigners and bachelors from rural areas and said, “There are many victims of international marriages in rural areas of our country. “We will make sure that the Popular Democratic Party serves as a channel to find remedies and solutions from various angles to address marriage fraud, which is gradually becoming more sophisticated,” he said.
