경기도교육청(교육감 임태희)이 경기도교육청국제교육원을 평택에서 성남시 분당구 (구)청솔중학교 부지로 이전함에 따라 지역주민과의 소통을 강화하기 위해 ‘주민설명회’를 개최한다.

새롭게 조성되는 국제교육원에서는 외국어 특화 경기공유학교인 ‘청솔랭귀지스쿨’을 비롯한 원어민 중심 외국어 교육 프로그램, 외국어 특화 도서관, 글로벌 문화 체험, 주민 평생학습 및 공유 오피스 등 지역사회와 연계된 혁신적 교육 인프라가 펼쳐진다. 

또한 연간 5만여 명으로 추정되는 교육 수요 유입은 지역상권 활성화에도 큰 기여 할 것으로 기대된다.

아울러 경기도교육청국제교육원 이전은 경기 남·북부 지역 간 교육 접근성 격차를 해소하고 도내 학생 및 교원의 국제교육 참여 기회를 확대하는 의미도 담겨있다. 

경기도교육청 관계자는 “지역의 기대와 목소리를 존중하며, 성남 시민과 함께 성장하는 열린 교육 공간을 만들어가겠다”며 “국제교육원이 성남의 새로운 상징이 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
