[브레이크뉴스경기남부=평택 이귀선기자] 정장선 민주당 평택시장 후보는 24일 오전 안정리 로데오거리에서 시민과 언론인을 대상으로 팽성관광특구지정을 포함한 팽성지역 공약 발표회를 가졌다.

이날 발표회에는 더불어민주당 김현정 평택을 지역위원장, 김수우, 김인환 도의원후보, 이기형 시의원후보 등이 참석했다.

국가 안보를 위한 희생, 팽성 지역 발전을 위한 방안 강구

정 후보는 “팽성지역 주민들은 국가 안보를 위해 긴 시간 희생을 감내해왔다. 주민들의 주거환경 개선과 복리 증진을 포함해 팽성지역의 발전을 위한 다양한 방안을 검토하고, 또 진행하고 있다. 특히, 앞으로 팽성은 삼성전자, 카이스트 평택캠퍼스, 미군기지에 오는 많은 분들이 방문하는 국제적 관광지로 새롭게 거듭날 것이다.”라고 기대했다.

팽성관광특구지정 추진, 국제관광지로서의 이미지 제고

 “2024년 팽성에 경기도 최초로 5성급 인터콘티넨탈 호텔이 들어설 계획이다. 꽤 오래전부터 내외국인들의 대형관광호텔 유치에 대한 지속적인 요청이 있었고, 그에 부응하는 성과를 목전에 두고 있다. 5성급 호텔 유치를 통해 고용창출과 지역경제 활성화, 인근 내리문화공원 등과 연계한 지역관광산업의 거점화를 기대한다. 아울러 관광특구지정을 조속히 추진해, 역사와 문화 레저 모두 소비가 가능한 생동감 있는 도시, 국제도시로서의 위상을 제고하도록 하겠다.”고 전했다.  

신궁교차로 6차선 확대, 꽉 막힌 도로를 시원하게

또한, 정 후보는 “출퇴근 시간을 비롯해 도로정체가 심한 ‘추팔-신궁리’ 구간의 교통환경이 크게 개선된다.”고 밝혔다. “국도 45호선 확장사업의 일환으로 팽성읍 남산리 추팔산업공단 사거리에서 신궁교차로까지 1.47km 구간을 기존 4차로에서 6차로로 확장하게 된다. 또한, 이를 신궁교차로 개선사업과 연계해 현재 2면 입체인 교차로를 4방향 진출입이 가능한 완전입체형 교차로로 개선할 예정이다.”라고 계획을 전했다.  

함정지구 도시개발로 팽성 서부지역을 새롭게 

끝으로 정 후보는 “미군기지 주변의 미흡한 도시 개발로 인한 소규모 난개발을 예방하고, 보다 체계적으로 도시개발사업을 추진하고자 한다. 팽성 서부지역 K-6주변 미군영외주택 거주자 수용과 더불어 중심상권 배치를 통해 경제, 문화, 생활상권이 풍부한 정주여건의 도시기반을 조성할 것이다.”라며 함정지구 도시개발에 대한 의지를 표했다. 아울러 팽성읍 발전 방향에 대해 지역 주민들과 적극적으로 소통하며, 노력해 나가겠다고 전했다.
