[Break News Gyeonggi Nambu = Reporter Kim Jeong-eun] Yongin City started the citizen participation project 'PET2TEE' to make T-shirts from discarded plastic bottles.

PET2TEE, which runs until the 30th of next month, is a project to make t-shirts by producing yarn from PET bottles collected by citizens.

The project was planned with the idea of citizens participating in the ‘Zero Waste Village Lab’, which the city has been conducting since last April.

Citizens will participate in the design of the T-shirt to inform the city of Yongin and contain a message to protect the environment.

With this project, the city plans to produce a total of 100 T-shirts and deliver them to the Yongin Workplace Sports Club, where a total of six teams are active, including bowling, rowing, athletics, kendo, judo, and taekwondo.

PET bottle collection boxes were installed at the intersection in front of the Administrative Welfare Center in Yeokbuk-dong, Cheoin-gu, the Witch's Garden in Dongbaek-dong, Giheung-gu, the Sanghyeon 1-dong Community Service Center in Suji-gu, the Zelkova Library in Dongcheon-dong, and the Yongin Environmental Justice Tuple Station in Jukjeon-dong.

Citizens can wash transparent bottled water and beverage bottles made of PET, close the lid, crush it, and put it in the collection box. Citizens are also provided with various benefits such as 1 hour of volunteer time per 15 PET bottles and a garbage bag.

In addition, from the 15th of next month, you can check the project process and results through the website of Yongin City Hall and the Facebook page of the Yongin Resource Circulation Network.

Song Heon-jeong (Sang Hyun-dong), who participated in the PET2TEE project planning, said, "This project started with a question about how the recycled products I separated and discharged are circulated." .

A city official said, “I expect it will be a time to inform the public of the importance of resource circulation by directly showing the citizens that waste is recycled into useful resources.

Meanwhile, the Zero Waste Village Lab is a project the city is carrying out to reduce the ever-increasing amount of household waste and increase the recycling rate at the same time. Participating citizens were recruited through a public contest earlier, and 18 teams of 5 to 10 people from each eup, myeon and dong are currently conducting various experiments to reduce waste, such as collecting milk cartons separately, certifying stores in containers, and producing promotional materials for separate discharge.
